The porn industry is set to get their own online signature after ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers approved the use of the xxx suffix for porn sites.A big scramble is tipped as thousands of operators scramble to register new names using the xxx suffix instead of .org or .com.
The support of nine of 16 board members of ICANN at a public meeting in San Francisco on Friday brought to a close one of the most contentious issues in the non-profit organisation’s history.

“This decision represents a difficult, careful balance, weighing the extensive community advice both for and against,” ICANN said at the conclusion of a week-long conference that culminated in the board meeting.
Use of the suffix had drawn fire from conservatives and divided adult entertainment interests, some of whom feared being isolated or censored in countries that could block access to domain names ending in xxx.
No governments participating in the policy process at ICANN endorsed the plan, while some opposed it. ICANN chose to ignore much of the advice from the panel of government representatives, underscoring an independence that continues to come under fire.
