US based Battery Ventures has pumped A$17 million in venture capital funding into Australian tech company Nitro, which has been seeking to break into Adobe’s domination of the PDF document creation market.
A software partner of Chinese computer manufacturer Lenovo, Nitro claims its software can enable users to create, convert and edit PDF files.
The company was founded in Australia in 2005. Four years later Nitro chief executive Sam Chandler moved the headquarters to San Francisco
The company’s latest product, Nitro Cloud, is said to allow people to collaborate and share documents in the cloud, including being able to request e-signatures.
Chandler yesterday said the partnership with Battery Ventures would see the company accelerate its move into the Asian market, largely thanks to the Lenovo connection. “So many Lenovo users are becoming Nitro users … we have the potential to access many millions of new customers,” he said.
