YouTube has launched a new tool to help users manage their time when watching the site.

Parent Google says the tool is designed to show users how many hours they’ve spent on the site that day over the past week. Google launched a suite of well-being tools in May, designed to help curb the growing problem of online addiction, especially among teenagers. The ‘Time Watched’ feature is located in the account menu on the YouTube app and is available from today for all the sites’ users.

Time Watched breaks down users’ time spent based on today, yesterday, and the past seven days, providing the user with a daily average.

“Our goal is to provide a better understanding of time spent on YouTube, so you can make informed decisions about how you want YouTube to best fit into your life,” the company said in a blog post.

The tool also allows users to set time limits, which can be controlled in Settings.

“We’ll help you set up a reminder to take a break,” they added. “Once you hit that limit, you receive a friendly reminder on your screen.”
