Tinder has plans to make dating easier by allowing singles to let their friends and family take the steering wheel of their dating life by suggesting partners directly through the app.
The new Matchmaker feature allows users to invite people, regardless of them having a profile or not, to view and recommend potential matches. This is the company’s way of integrating a “friend test” within the app.
Tinder Matchmaker is available now in 15 countries including the US, UK, Australia, Canada, France, and Germany. A global rollout is scheduled “in the coming months.”
A Matchmaker session can be started directly from a profile card, or within the settings of the app, creating a link which can then be shared with up to 15 people.
Loved ones participating then have 24 hours to recommend profiles before the session expires. These ‘Matchmakers’ can’t interact with the potential dates on behalf of the user.
Once the session has expired, the user can review candidates suggested. Profiles liked by matchmakers will be marked as a “recommendation,” however, the user still has the final say. Any profiles marked as ‘nope’ by the matchmakers will remain the same.
This could cause some tension in families and friend circles though, as the feature could be used for trolling.
