The Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) Website was hacked over the weekend exposing website visitors to malware.
Picked up by the Sydney Morning herald, SBS confirmed the attack in a statement which recognised a malicious user inserted a harmful link to a malware site.
“Users who may have inadvertently visited this third-party malware site could then have had their machines infected with a virus, depending on their security settings,” they disclosed in their statement.
“SBS would like to apologise to any of our site users who may have been affected by a virus.”
At present the problem has been repaired, with SBS now undertaking an investigation to determine how their web security was breached.
In the past 90 days, the SBS website has been listed by Google for suspicious activity, even though they claim this is the first time its website fell victim to a hacker.
