Why, almost 4 million of us surfed the web on our smartphones in one month alone – a whopping 63% jump on last year.
In June, 3.9 million people over 14 years went online via their mobile, the Australian Communications and Media Authority said today.
Accessing online services including apps is also riding high – 72% of Aussies downloaded a mobile app in the six months to April.
This mean the mobile is no longer just a talk and text machine- it now does stuff.

59% of all mobile’s belong to users aged 18-24 age group are smartphone like an iPhone, Samsung Galaxy II or BlackBerry by April, which has undoubtedly even further risen since then.
‘The rising popularity of smartphones, in parallel with increased mobile phone data allowances and network capabilities, is encouraging the accessing of online services by mobile,’ said ACMA Chairman, Chris Chapman.
‘Internet access has become an integral feature of the mobile phone, and this has been complemented by the development of an array of mobile applications-which allow users access to specific services at the touch of a screen.’
‘The mobile phone is a fully fledged participant in the digital economy, as it is becoming a converged device that more and more consumers use to access functions other than just voice.”
