Apple has been under fire from consumers after it confessed it intentionally slows downs older phones to save on battery consumption and now CEO Tim Cook has apologised and announced there will be a new update for users view their battery health.
The update be out in March and lets users see how healthy their batteries are with Cook explaining to ABC News, “If you don’t want it, you can turn it off.
“We’re going to give people the visibility of the health of their battery so it’s very, very transparent. This hasn’t been done before.”
Cook apologised to Apple users over those who thought the company purposely slowed down phones for money, saying ‘We deeply apologise for anyone who thinks we have some other kind of motivation’.
He explains the reason for the slowdown was to focus on user experience and to avoid the phone restarting unexpectedly.
Due to the major backlash Apple reduced the price of its iPhone batteries making it more affordable for users to replace them if needed. In Australia the price for iPhone replacement batteries have dropped from $119 to $39.
