Microsoft said it’s working to fix device crippling issues in its troublesome Surface line, including one that plummets the processor clock to speeds not seen since the late 90s.

Surface users are also reportedly experiencing issues with their Wi-Fi not being able to connect to 5GHz networks since the latest update at the start of this month.
A Microsoft spokesperson told TechRepublic the company is aware of the issue and working on a firmware update to fix it.
Reddit posts going back as far as a year ago reported CPU speeds dropping to 400MHz on Surface Book 2 and Surface Pro 6 devices.
It’s believed the issue is being caused by the BD PROCHOT Intel CPU flag, designed to prevent processors overheating.
The flag is designed to pop-up when components get too hot, but a bug is causing it to stay on for Surface users, dropping their CPU speed to practically unusable levels.
Previous Surface devices have been hit with a variety of issues including GPUs disappearing, displays flickering, and devices going to sleep and not waking up.
