Amazon has today announced that its smart voice assistant, Alexa, will soon be able to control microwaves and ovens, with further plans to support other cooking appliances too.
The tech company has revealed it’s adding microwave and oven control features to Alexa, giving it the ability to action requests such as “Alexa, please microwave for 1 minute on high”.
Recent reports reveal that Whirlpool will be among the first appliance brands to feature Alexa integration, enabling consumers to “soon” “configure, start, and operate” its suite of smart microwaves.
LG, Samsung, Kenmore and GE Appliances are also reportedly planning to add Alexa support to their appliance ranges.
Consumers need to ensure any smart appliances they purchase have been updated to support Alexa integration. Whilst Amazon has a variety of vendor partners, it’s not certain how rapidly support will roll out.
