Retailers get Click Frenzy fever, but David Jones decides to go it alone.
David Jones today announced its very own Christmas Frenzy sale, choosing to ignore the Click Frenzy web sale kicking off at 7pm tonight with 200 Oz retailers involved, the second major retailer to do so in 24 hours, along with Apple.
High street stalwart David Jones has announced a massive sale “all day, today only’ Tuesday 20 Nov, both instore and online as it looks to capitalise on the current online frenzy.
DJ stores in NSW, ACT and VIC will open all stores until 10PM while QLD, SA and WA stores will stay open until 9PM tonight.
The sale is also on David Jones Online until midnight tonight.
Offers include: 20% off Toys (Excludes Skip hop, B.Toys), 15% off All Fragrances, 30% off Women’s Shoes, Men’s Denim 30% off Manchester (Excl. Nursery) and 40% off Cookware.
However, all the above deals are discounts off ‘full-priced’ items. Other deals include: 20% off when you spend $50 on Small Appliances and Floorcare.
But the sale was not a snub to Click Frenzy, a spokesperson told Smarthouse.
“There was a couple of reasons DJ chose not to get involved with Click Frenzy,” the spokesperson said.
The main reason was the high end store launched its own webstore on November 05, and has “always planned a November event launch.”
However, DJs will be “looking with interest” to see how Click Frenzy goes down among Aussie consumers tonight, the spokesperson added, meaning the retailer could be jumping on the frenzied online bandwagon next year’.
But there are also some differences between the Cyber Monday event in the US and Click Frenzy, said the spokesperson, as the US version brings consumers straight to the retailer’s site, while Click Frenzy consumers have to go via Click’s platform and be registered with them.
So what about DJs’ newly launched online store?
There are 90,000 product SKUs, a mobile transaction site and magazine app for iPad, the spokesperson told SmartHouse.
“We’re aiming for 10% of total sales to come from online” in the future, but not in the next year.
“It’ll take longer than that.”
