EXCLUSIVE: Nick Gibson who recently took on the job as marketing director at LG Electronics has quit after just 10 months in the Job to take on a CEO role.
Gibson, who has been credited with doing a “fantastic” job of turning LG marketing around, following the dumping of the previous marketing director David Brand is to become the Managing Director of Melbourne based Company Mentholatum who sell the Deepheat brand.
Gibson, who joined LG after a stint at Electrolux, faced major problems when he joined the company as it was facing a multimillion dollar fine from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, after his predecessor advertised false marketing claims.
Since Gibson took over LG Australia has seen a major turnaround in their fortunes. In the TV market the Company is grabbing market share away from their competitors with their new Cinema 3D offering. They have also increased their share of the appliance market and the air conditioning market.
In an exclusive interview with ChannelNews Gibson said “It’s been great working at LG. We have built a great team and LG have some stunning products which has allowed us to get a great message out to the consumer. All of our divisions are now performing well”.
When asked why he was leaving Gibson said “I have really enjoyed working at LG but an offer came along to take on a CEO role and I could not refuse it. I will be moving to Melbourne for the role”
Nick Gibson was the Vice President of Product Development in the Asia Pacific for Fabric Care, Marketing Director at Johnson & Johnson Pacific and Marketing Director Electrolux Australia. He worked there between June 2005 and March 2009.
