Taking cues from Fitbit and Apple Watch, Garmin has launched a new menstrual cycle tracking servicevia its Garmin Connect app for iPhone and Android.
Garmin’s new menstrual cycle tracker widget allows women to log their symptoms and see how their cycle may affect their exercise regime and eating habits.
The tracker will send reports on how the user’s performance changed throughout each stage of their cycle, which the wearer can use to inform their workout schedules.
Menstrual tracking is a popular feature that appears on other major smartwatch brands notably Fitbit, which launched their tracking service around this time last year.
Like other tracking services, Garmin’s will provide reminders of period start times, fertility windows, and the ability for users to make notes on individual symptoms.
The Garmin version also offers options for women with irregular periods, no periods, and both pre-menopausal and menopausal women.
“Garmin has leveraged our unparalleled fitness expertise into a feature that lets active women track their cycle in the same place they tracked their last run,” said Susan Lyman, Garmin vice president of global consumer marketing.
“Cycle tracking was developed for women, by Garmin women – from the engineers to the project managers, to the marketing team. In this way, we could ensure that we were authentically addressing a woman’s actual wants and needs.”
Reportedly, the new menstrual cycle tracking feature is available to users via the Garmin Connect app in an upcoming update.
Additionally, a number of devices will be able to avail of a widget for the feature, including the Vivoactive 3 and Fenix 5 Plus Series and select Forerunner devices.
