GoPro is heading back to its roots with a new editing app for MacBooks. The company has offered the GoPro Studio and Play + ReelSteady desktop apps for a while, however, since 2016, its main focus has been on mobile.
The latest program is based on Quik, and ties into the mobile app for GoPro. The user will be able to start editing in the Quik mobile app, then finish editing on the Mac app. Or the other way around.
Some of the features include a beat sync tool, which matches the edit to the rhythm of the backing track, and an auto-highlight editing function.
GoPro claims all key tools from the Quik mobile app will be available on the desktop app by the time a Windows version arrives later this year.
One thing the company does is charge those who don’t use their devices a subscription fee of U$10 per year to use the Quik mobile app. Subscribers to other tiers will gain access to the desktop app for free.
GoPro is also rebranding its GoPro Subscription to GoPro Premium. It will still cost U$50 (A$69.99) a year, with new subscribers gaining a 50% discount for the first year, and will include features such as unlimited cloud backup, livestreaming, discounts on equipment, and guaranteed replacements for cameras.
Additionally, the company will be adding a higher subscription tier, GoPro Premium+, and it will include all of Premium’s perks, as well as, HyperSmooth Pro video stabilisation, and up to 500GB cloud storage for footage shot with non-GoPro cameras.
The original Premium subscription only allows up to 25GB cloud storage for footage shot on non-GoPro cameras.
The new Premium+ subscription will cost U$100 (A$169.99) a year, and Premium users can upgrade for U$50 (A$100).
