HDR Netflix Content Comes To Sony’s 2017 Flagship

Sony’s Xperia XZ Premium is set to the become the second flagship Android smartphone to support Netflix’s growing library of HDR-grade content.

In order to make full use of the capability, users will also need a Netflix Premium subscription, the latest version of the official Netflix android app and a minimum connection speed of 25mbps.

Previously, the only smartphone that supported HDR content was LG’s G6.

Netflix has been steadily expanding its HDR offering over the last few years – favouring Original Series’ like House of Cards, Marvel’s Daredevil and A Series of Unfortunate Events – as more and more TVs capable of reproducing a wider color gamut have made their way to market.

However, unlike the G6, HDR content viewed on the Xperia will use the Ultra HD Premium standard rather than the Dolby Vision found on LG’s flagship smartphone and TVs.
