Two new Chromebooks have been announced in the market: HP 14″ Convertible Chromebook x360 running on Intel Core processors and the more conservatively-priced Asus 14″ C423 running on Celeron and Pentium processors.
The HP Chromebook x360 convertible laptop features Google’s lightweight ChromeOS operating system and, depending on what model you choose, it runs on the 8th-generation Intel Core i5 or i7.
Regardless of the processor choice, the Chromebook also features 8GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and a 14-inch 1,920 x 1,080 IPS display.
Asus C423 comes in two models, one with non-touchscreen that’s powered by an Intel Celeron processor, and one with a 1080p touchscreen display that’s powered by a Pentium N4200. Both featuring a plastic body but with an aluminium lid for increased durability.
Asus state this model is the first of its Chromebooks to feature a “NanoEdge design,” with thin 5.8mm bezels.
HP is claiming the x360 is the thinnest Chromebook it’s ever produced at only 16mm thick, Asus’s C423 is only slightly thicker at 16.1mm.
Despite how thin the HP x360 is, it still offers a decent amount of ports including two USB Type-C ports, a standard sized USB Type-A port, and a microSD slot.
Asus C423 features two USB Type-C ports, two regular USB ports, a headphone jack, and a microSD card slot for additional storage.
The C423 features a 180-degree hinge that allows the Chromebook to lay flat, whereas the HP x360 can be used as a tablet or laptop and features a 360 hinge that tucks the keyboard entirely away.
Asus has not announced when the Chromebook C423 will be available or its price, but it is projected to be US$400 or less. HP has announced the Chromebook x360 14 will cost US$599 when it becomes available on October 21, pre-orders are available now.
