Australians are being asked to pay up to $435 more than US consumers for the new Sony DSLR100K SLR Digital Camera. Attempts by SmartHouse Magazine to get an explanation from Sony Australia have not been forthcoming despite several calls to the Company and their PR operation.
In Australia consumer are being asked to pay $1,499 for the SLR body while US consumers are being asked to pay $899 which at today’s exchange rate adds up to $1182.00 a difference of $317.00. or 25%. However if you buy the full kit with the 18-70mm lens you are hit a staggering $1,749.00 in Australia. What is not know In the US the price for the full kit is only $999 which is $100 dearer than the body only price. Converted this comes to $1,314.00.
In Australia the Sony DSLR100K full kit price with lens is $250 dearer than the body only price with the overall price difference for the kit being a massive $435.00. Major US Internet sites such as www.amazon.com are already offering the new Sony SLR Digital Camera.
What is not known is whether the big difference in price is being taken by Sony Australia or is being passed on to resellers.
While the Camera is sensational the price is defiantly on the nose with consumers who are traveling to the USA able to pick up the Camera at a bargain basement . The only small problem is the power lead for the charger but this can be changed to an Australian plug for less than $25.00.
