Telstra is reportedly working with Google to bring phone calling via Google Assistant devices to Aussie residents – a feature already LIVE in Canada, US and the UK.
Aussie tech blog, Ausdroid, claims it has received information Telstra is exploring ‘smart calling’ with the tech giant, allowing Google Home owners to phone selected local numbers at no charge.
Premium and international calling is also available at a cost (when linked to Google Voice).
The rumoured partnership would bring voice calling to all Google Home devices, accessible with a compatible Telstra Mobile account.
Aussie consumers can already make Duo calls via Google Assistant devices, however, the rumour reflects potential extra revenue generation for Telstra amidst strong carrier competition.
Telstra Australia is yet to formally confirm/announce the functionality.
