Against hefty international competition, Telstra has won a six-year, multi-million dollar contract to provide network services for coverage of Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) tournaments across the globe.Telstra was awarded the contract by digital sports
media company Perform Group, which recently announced a 10-year, US$525 million
partnership with WTA. But neither Telstra nor Perform has said how much money
will change hands for the Aussie phone company’s contract.
Under the deal Telstra will cover 47 live global WTA events this year,
including the Brisbane International, St Petersburg Ladies Trophy, Miami Open
and WTA Finals in Singapore.
Telstra said it will use its global submarine fibre cables; satellite teleports;
broadcast operation centres in Australia, Asia, Europe, and the USA; and global
field service teams to transmit live WTA video and audio content to Perform’s
points-of-presence.
