Toshiba Australia have said that production of their notebooks in China could prevent delays in Australia following the recent earthquake in Japan, however there is no news on the official release date for their Folio Tablet that was scheduled for release in Australia in May 2011.Toshiba Australia MD Mark Whittard said in a statement issued to ChannelNews: “Our mobile computing platforms are produced in China and shipped from there directly to various regions and countries. With parts and components secured, in the short term, production and shipment (for regions/countries outside of Japan in particular) will not be affected.”
“At this stage there is no indication of how the recent events in Japan will affect supply of products to Australia in the long term. We will continue to work with our head office to determine what impact may occur and ensure we keep our customers, retailers, distributors and resellers informed.”
Both Toshiba and Hitachi have shuttered LCD plants near Tokyo for a month as they deal with the aftermath of the earthquake. Both companies are citing damage to the plants, worsened by power shortages. The plants manufacture small LCD screens for use in smartphones and automotive devices.
