As sales of Samsung premium smartphones slide in Australia their cheap A Series devices is keeping their numbers up, now the Korean Company is having another crack at trying to stimulate their flagship Galaxy Note with new models that many claim should be 5G as carriers move to spruiking 5G over 4G at the premium end of the market.
The standout feature of any Samsung Note device is the S Pen and what it can do.
This time round the big addition is said to be a new motion gesture feature that allows users to hover over the screen controlling functions without touching the screen.
What’s not known is how the new S Pen will achieve this or more important the relevance of the technology.
Past notes have been big and heavier than other Samsung Galaxy premium smartphones, now Samsung is tipped to release multiple models with some observers speculating that there could be up to four new models.
However concern has emerged over whether the new devices with be 4G or 5G as Telstra moves to position their premium services wrapped around a 5G offering.
The two core new Note models are set to be a smaller 6.3-inch Note 10, and a 6.8-inch display version. The current S10 has a 6.1-inch screen, and the S10 Plus a 6.4-inch display.
Both Notes will feature Samsung’s Infinity-O displays and will come with razor-thin top bezels.
A single hole-punch camera is set to be located directly in the middle of the top of the display.
The top end Samsung devices will incorporate Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 processor, the bigger Note 10 Plus will have a 3,500 mAh battery, 12W wireless charging, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage — with no microSD card.
The larger model will have a massive 4,300 mAh battery, 20W wireless charging, up to 45W charging speeds for USB-C charging, 12GB of RAM, and the same 256 GB storage, but with a microSD slot added. There is no mention yet of the weight of this device which is also set to feature an additional ToF (time-of-flight) sensor on the back.
This is designed to deliver better portrait mode depth effects and augmented reality which very few users actually take advantage off.
Also missing from the new models is a headphone jack with users set to be forced to use Bluetooth connected headphones.
The official launch is next Wednesday at the Barclays Centre in New York with the Korean Company also set to reignite their failed Samsung Fold launch with a new upgraded model.
At this stage it’s not known whether all the devices will be 5G or whether owners will be forced to upgrade to a new 5G model later or be given a new 5G upgrade option.
Some observers claim that if the new devices are not 5G a lot of current Note fans will resist upgrading.
