US video streaming giant Netflix is still taking the Australian and New Zealand markets seriously and lifting expectations that the will launch Down Under in 2015.
Speaking in a Q&A session at the MipCom global television market in Cannes, Netlfix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos described both countries as “very attractive territories that are English-speaking and love US content”.
Australian industry sources at MipCom claimed Netflix is gearing up to launch simultaneously in both countries in the second quarter of 2015.
The news is considered very disruptive to the market currently dominated by free-to-air and pay-TV providers because of Netflix’s huge popularity and US low price.
