HTC has taken its acclaimed Vive virtual reality (VR) headset to the next level, by unveiling a ‘Pro’ model at CES 2018, plus a new a wireless adaptor.
HTC Vive Pro
The Vive Pro is a new HMD upgrade for “VR enthusiasts and enterprise users” who desire “the best display and audio”. The device features dual-OLED displays with a 2880 x 1600 picture resolution combined – i.e. a 78% increase compared to the current Vive HMD.
The improvements claim to offer increased text and graphics clarity.
The Vive Pro also features integrated high-tech headphones, with a built-in amplifier for a “richer sound”.
Addition upgrades include dual microphones with active noise cancellation and dual front-facing cameras.

HTC Wireless Adaptor
HTC claims it is first to market with its new Vive Wireless Adaptor, which offers truly wireless VR headset integration for both Vive and Vive Pro.
The new Wireless Adaptor incorporates Intel’s WiGig technology, which offers interference-free 60Ghz band for lower latency and better overall performance.
Pricing is yet to be confirmed, however, the adaptor is set to ship worldwide in Q32018.
HTC Viveport VR & Vive Video:
The company also announced a “radical redesign” of Viveport VR and Vive Video, which it claims offers “higher resolution, improved audio, greater comfort, wireless freedom and immersive content discovery”.
HTC’s all-new Viveport VR embraces the company’s mantra to put VR first – e.g. it has rolled out “VR Previews”, giving consumers the opportunity to interact with content before purchasing.
Rikard Steiber, President, Viveport, affirms:
“Until now, there has not been a shopping and browsing experience that takes advantage of the full functionality of VR. Available in early access today, Viveport VR increases interaction with content and offers developers a preview that showcases the quality of their titles and experiences”.
