Following sluggish sales, the loss of over half its smartphone R&D team, and recent exit of its Global phone Chief, Taiwanese-based HTC has sought to prove it’s ‘still in the game’, following the launch of its latest flagship phone the U12+.
The new 6-inch U12+ claims to be HTC’s “biggest and boldest flagship phone ever”, and features several amped up aspects reviewers loved in the predecessing U11.
The sleek, sexy aesthetic of the U11 has been further enhanced in the U12 Plus – e.g. ultra-thin borders and a ‘Translucent Blue’ back, which allows users to view the phone’s internal components.
The new HTC U12+ features Edge Sense 2, four cameras (dual front and rear), Qualcomm aptX HD audio, and it’s renowned ‘Liquid Surface’.
Running Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform with X20 LTE, the U12+ incorporates 6GB RAM and up to 128GB storage.
Australian pricing and availability is yet to be officially confirmed, however, consensus is the device will be priced the ~$1,000 mark.
Capitalising on the strength of its Vive VR headset, the new HTC U12+ claims to be ‘VR ready’, and supports mirror mode to turn the phone into “your own personal VR theatre”.
In addition to Translucent Blue, the new U12+ is also available in ‘Ceramic Black’ and ‘Flame Red’.
