Many rural and remote communities are hopping mad after the Turnbull Government failed to increase its funding for mobile phone blackspots. The Coalition failed to allocate any new funding for
the Mobile Black Spot program which sees it work with telcos and state
governments to build new phone towers in affected areas.
No fewer than 6000 mobile black spots have been identified across the nation
and so far the Federal Government’s has agreed to fix only 499 of them.
The National Farmers’ Federation had called for an expanded commitment to the
program, to help farmers get up-to-date mobile communications and vastly
improved Internet speeds.
