As 8K TVs were making a splash at CES 2019, Canon product planning exec has confirmed in an interview that the camera manufacturer is planning to develop a full-frame mirrorless camera able to shoot 8K video.
In an exclusive interview with Imaging Resource, Yoshiyuki Mizoguchi, a top planning exec at Canon, confirmed that “an 8K video-capable camera is already in our EOS R-series roadmap.”
While most other camera manufacturers made 4K-capable cameras standard in their mirrorless offerings, Canon was late to join the boat.
The EOS line is Canon’s mirrorless camera range, to which the 4K capable mirrorless camera EOS M50, was only added in early 2018, however, users complained that it was crippled by its 1.8x crop and 30fps max frame rate.
No concrete timeframe on this potential new product would be added to Canon’s range, and Mizoguchi stated that “perhaps it may not be the next model we introduce.”
