Costco is recalling over 500,000 portable chargers due to the danger that they may overheat and cause a fire, this follows a Product Safety recall of the Cygnett MagMove 5K Dual Magnet Power Bank which was recalled last month.
What’s not known is whether they both came from the same factory in China.
The Cygnett product was sold nationally in Australia between September 2023 and March 2024 at several retailers such as JB HiFi, Officeworks, Harvey Norman, Telstra, and The Good Guys.
Costco has ordered an emergency recall of 567,000 portable chargers tyhat look remarkably similar due to them overheating and causing a fire.
Three models of the myCharge POWER HUB All-In-One 10,000mAh portable charger were deemed to pose a risk to the public with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, an independent federal agency taking similar action to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission Product Safety Agency.
The US The charger is manufactured in China and imported into the United States by a company called RFA Brands who are believed to have picked up the product after visiting a trade fair in China.

In two instances in the USA, the chargers caught fire, which then spread throughout homes — resulting in property damage totalling around $200,000.
“Costco received 115 returns of the portable chargers mentioning melting, expanding, smoking, fire, burning, exploding, or sparking,” the commission said.
Anyone who bought the item are warned not to throw them out in the trash.
People are also encouraged to refrain from putting them in recycling boxes.
“These potentially hazardous batteries must be handled differently than other batteries,” the commission said.
