Besides being able to record television programs, the company claims that the TViX PVR 5130 is also a hard disk digital video and a music and photo player and supports the latest high definition video playback, including H.264 encoded video files.
Product Manager of Laco Pacific, Eugene Wong said, “The most striking feature about the TViX 5130 is its unique, cylindrical shape. It speaks volumes about the nature of the product meaning it’s more than just a PVR hard disk multimedia player or networked media streamer. The TViX 5130 does things standing up, while all other PVRs are lying down on the job.”
The unit can record up to 30 hours of HD TV (at 1080i resolution) as it comes with a 320GB hard disk drive (HDD). The TViX 5130 can also store DVD movie collections for future playback, and even allows a user to access multimedia files from their PC.
High definition videos recorded from HDV and AVCHD camcorders can be played back in native HD quality using the TViX. In addition, the TViX 5130 can play large, high resolution digital photographs as slideshows on the big screen from the hard drive or directly from the digital camera via the USB host port.
Besides support for H.264 compressed digital videos, the TViX 5130 also claims to support MKV files, a multimedia container file format that is growing in popularity amongst the Internet downloading community. MKV or Matroska, is an envelope for which there can be many audio, video and subtitle streams, allowing the user to store a complete movie or CD in a single file.
Finally, with its built-in LAN port, the TViX can be networked with a PC system and can be used to navigate files located in a PC for direct streaming.
