Owned by John Wiley & Co, the US company will sell all of its travel assets, including the Frommer’s brand, to Google.
The latest buy will complement the Google-owned Zagat restaurant guide site, purchased last year, the search giant said.
Frommers Travel Guides gives tips and advice on travel, hotels and airlines and have reviews on global destinations – from New York city to Sri Lanka and Ubud, Bali.
The guides guru said it was “thrilled” to be soon part of Google.
Founded in 1807, John Wiley & Co will use the proceeds from the sale, which is undisclosed, to support growth in Professional/Trade; Scientific, Technical, Medical, and Scholarly; and Global Education businesses.
However, it is believed Google will fork out the region of US$23 (A$21.8m) for the travel guide, reports New York Times, citing sources.
