If you have bought an Apple HomePod or have plans to get your hands on one, reports say if the cord is pulled out of the device, repair costs will be nearly the same as a brand new smart speaker.
A CNET writer found out this fact after visiting the Apple Store to buy the device with a solemn warning from a staff member telling him if he rips out the cord he will be paying around the same amount for a HomePod to fix it.
In the US the HomePod is priced at US$350 and to repair the cord it costs US$279, the same as fixing an iPhone X screen.
But there is a silver lining, purchase AppleCare+ for the product extending coverage for two years. 9to5Mac discovered a memo on HomePod cord repairs and Apple can fix it without costs but only for rare situations.
Engadget reports the HomePod has been built so third party repair shops cannot fix the device, it will have to be sent to Apple.
If you do break your HomePod cord maybe buy another one, or don’t break it at all.
The smart speaker has been on the market since last Friday and costs $499. Apple have released several video tutorials to help users understand its new device.
