HTC could be set to join the smartwatch rush, with a new report indicating it has an Android Wear offering in the works. While a smartwatch has yet to be sighted from HTC, this could be about to change, with Phandroid reporting HTC is working on smartwatch codenamed halfbeak.
According to the report, the smartwatch will sport a round face and a 360 x 360 resolution, while there is no word yet as to potential names.
The smartwatch market has been on a steep growth curve in 2015, boosted by the release of the Apple Watch, with Strategy Analytics finding that global shipments grew 457 per cent annually in the second quarter.
However, the market is new and longer term trends are yet to be established. In a recent study, Telsyte stated that it believes smartwatches are destined to make up a smaller proportion of the larger smart wearables market.
Among other manufacturers, both Samsung and Motorola are set to release new smartwatch offerings in the near future.
Phandroid notes that according to a recently leaked flyer, HTC has an event slated for September 29, at which a new smartwatch could potentially make an appearance.
