Taiwan-based HTC has became the latest tech company to make a virtual reality system available to consumers. The device, dubbed Vive and set to take on the Oculus Rift, is a joint development by the HTC and video game distribution company Valve.HTC’s product, pictured, is a headset that connects to
a powerful computer, letting people play virtual reality games and other VR
content.
The Vive arrived just a week after Facebook brought its Oculus Rift virtual
reality system to the masses and Samsung debuted its Gear VR.
The Vive costs more than the Rift – at US$799 (A$1050) for the headset and
$1000 to $2000 for a compatible computer. Facebook’s Oculus sells the Rift
headset for $599, or $1500 when the system is bundled with a computer.
