IKEA has announced it will showcase its Sonos-powered SYMFONISK smart speakers in Milan this April. Australian pricing and availability is yet to be confirmed.
In a company blog post, the flat-pack furniture company made the announcement, claiming to make “high-quality sound available for everyone.”
The SYMFONISK speakers were first revealed back in June 2018, and it was revealed that the speakers would be making their way to the market in August of this year.
The “bookshelf speaker” is the first in IKEA and Sonos’ SYMFONISK range, and a video released by the company suggests we might also see a wall-mounted version in the future.
Speakers in the SYMFONISK line will be compatible with Sonos’ wireless speakers and IKEA’s Home Smart lights and switches, including its upcoming smart blinds.
The smart blinds have been delayed to allow for firmware updates to make them compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri voice assistants.
Indicating that the new speakers may be compatible with those voice assistants as well.
“Together with Sonos we wanted to combine our home furnishing knowledge with their expertise in creating great sound experiences for every room of the home, and in Milan we want you to experience the real difference that sound and light makes in your life”, says Björn Block, Business Leader for IKEA Home Smart at IKEA of Sweden.
The speakers’ collaboration is the latest step in IKEA’s journey to create a smart home at an affordable price.

The collaboration with Sonos is a great example of this, offering affordable high-quality sound in combination with a great design piece that we hope will find its way into the many people’s homes”, Björn ends.
The new SYMFONISK range will be on show at the FEEL HOME exhibition in Milan, Italy 9-14 April.
