Ahead of its official launch, IKEA has announced its SYMFONISK bookshelf speaker — made in collaboration with Sonos — has received a Red Dot Award for product design.
Along with the company’s announcement, we finally got to see what the finished product of the long-teased speaker looks like, set to hit IKEA shelves this August.
The SYMFONISK range is intended to provide customers with a smart multi-functional speaker at an affordable price.
The final product looks strikingly similar to the original prototype the collaborators revealed in 2018 with a subtle Sonos / IKEA logo on its top.
“Together with Sonos, we wanted to combine our home furnishing knowledge with their expertise in creating great sound experiences for every room of the home”, says Andreas Fredriksson, Designer at IKEA of Sweden.
“Both Sonos and IKEA believe in the power of design to elevate the quality of everyday life,’ added Tad Toulis, VP Design at Sonos.
“With sound, it is a lot about atmosphere, and we hope the SYMFONISK speaker will contribute to turning static spaces into living places. With its simplistic design and neutral colours, it can blend in into many different homes and appeal to many different styles.”
IKEA also received awards for its FOKUSERA extractor hood, FINSMAKARE forced air oven and FINSMAKARE microwave combi oven.
Although the SYMFONISK bookshelf speaker is set to launch in August 2019, it is unclear if the entire range will also launch at the same time.
IKEA is still keeping the price under wraps, but one could presume it will be the same or less expensive than Sonos’ cheapest speaker the Play: 1 at $226 at JB Hi-Fi.
