Coding company Kano is making learning magical with their new Harry Potter Kano Coding Kit, a toy that uses a physical wand to operate an educational tablet app.
Satisfying parents’ need for productive screen time and children’s adoration of the famous wizarding franchise, the Harry Potter Kano Coding Kit is perfectly placed to become a big hit this coming Christmas.
The product introduces the user to both hardware and coding concepts from the get go, requiring aspiring wizards to assemble the modular components of the wand before they can use it.
Once built, the wand works as a remote operating device for the game through the use of an internal gyroscope, allowing the player to wave the wand around in three dimensional space to cast spells.
The spells themselves demonstrate coding functions that are triggered with various unique movements of the wand.
Descriptions of the effect of each spell are displayed alongside the visuals of the magic spell happening, in order for actual learning to happen alongside the enjoyment of waving your wand around.
There’s plenty of content for players to explore with over 70 step-by-step challenges, alongside connecting blocks of code and the ability to see the JavaScript that is driving the spell.
Core concepts taught include loops, logic and variables all supported by lush visuals inspired by the Harry Potter universe.
The Harry Potter Coding Kit will be available from October here.
