Samsung has revealed the latest sketches of its game-changing ‘foldable’ smartphone, following a patent application submitted to the Korean Intellectual Property Office.
LetsGoDigital first noticed the sketches, which follows a prior announcement from Samsung Mobile’s CEO, Dongjin Koh, alluding to the device’s arrival nearly a year ago:
“As a head of the company, I can say that our goal is to introduce a folding smartphone next year. Once the last problems have been overcome, we will launch the product”.
Thus far, the name ‘Samsung Galaxy X’ is still unclear, however, the associated model number ‘SM-G888’ has largely been confirmed, following the receipt of a Korean certificate.
Reports state the device has already received a Bluetooth certificate.
The sketches reflect that the Galaxy X will fold inwards, and does not consist of one screen, nor a keypad. In many ways, the revolutionary device could be described as a ‘modern-day flip phone’.
Media speculation has been growing that the forthcoming foldable smartphone may roll out before Samsung’s Galaxy S9. Some commentators speculate it could be revealed in early 2018, perhaps even around CES 2018 or Mobile World Congress.
Unfortunately, thus far Samsung’s foldable smartphone is likely to initially launch only in Korea, where the company will gather market feedback before rolling out internationally.
