Japanese audio brand Marantz has announced a new slim stereo receiver for audio enthusiasts who are chasing better TV sound but don’t want a full surround sound system.

The Marantz NR1200 (expected to be priced at A$1299) is targeted at customers looking for a power boost over a soundbar, with 75 watts per channel.

Each channel gets an independent amplifier and its own pair of DACs.

Marantz claim this increases the dynamic range and improves the signal to noise ratio for clearer sound from lower quality sources, such as compressed music from streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music.

The NR1200 has 5 HDMI 2.3 inputs, and an HDMI out with ARC for connection of streaming boxes, blu-ray players and gaming consoles to a television up to 4K resolution.

The receiver also features digital coaxial and optical inputs, AM/FM and DAB+ radio, Ethernet, phono and RCA inputs, with subwoofer pre out.

Wireless audio is available via Bluetooth, Apple AirPlay 2 and Marantz’ own HEOS multi-room network high-resolution streaming audio platform.

Bluetooth out also allows for the connection of Bluetooth speakers and headphones.

Voice commands are available through built in support for Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple Siri.

The NR1200 is expected to arrive in Australia towards the end of October.
