Microsoft states it is discontinuing its streaming service, Groove Music, on December 31st and will help users migrate their playlists to rival offering, Spotify.
It is the first time in a decade that Microsoft is not offering its own music streaming service.
To aid with the transition, Microsoft is offering some subscribers a complimentary 60-day trial of Spotify Premium.
Despite never releasing exact user numbers or revenue figures, the general consensus is the venture was never a notable success compared to competitor offerings.
Microsoft states Groove’s app will remain on Windows 10, for users to play music purchased from Windows Store. At the end of the year, consumers will no longer be able to utilise the platform’s streaming service via their Groove Music Pass.
