Software giant is said to be running a ruler over Swedish Minecraft makerThe New York Times reports the software giant was in talks to buy Mojang, months ago but now discussions have reached an “advanced level”.
$2 billion is said to be the price tag for the company described as having “control of an online world that has defied many of the conventions of the modern games business.”
Mojang makes cult game Minecraft and another Scrolls. It is also one of Xbox’s most played titles, the console made by, you guessed it, Microsoft, so would definitely make sense for the folks at Redmond.
The Swiss based gamer was founded in 2009 by its owner Markus Persson.
Interestingly, the most recent blog on Mojang’s site is Microsoft related. But there’s no talk of potential deals rather how to download Minecraft for XBox One.
Sources say the deal could be finalised by the end of the month.
Persson may not stay on in the company but is said to be pressing for his developers to keep their jobs.
