Nintendo has responded to concerns about the Switch, after users reported experiencing a number of issues with the company’s latest console.
In an interview with Time, Nintendo’s North American president Reggie Fils-Aimé said that the company was aware of reports about the left ‘Joy-Con’ controller for the Switch randomly disconnecting during gameplay
“We’re asking consumers a lot of questions. That’s why we want to get consumers on our help line, so we can get as much information to understand the situation as possible. And so we are in a fact-finding mode, to really understand the situation and the scenarios. And with that information, we’ll look and see what the next steps are,” Fils-Aimé told Time.
The company later said that the requests it had received for replacements or repairs for the Joy-Con were “consistent with what we’ve seen for any new hardware we have launched.”
While Nintendo did not acknowledge some other issues, such as not being able to use microSD cards for save data, it did acknowledge reports of a potential issue with one of the console’s primary functions: placing the system in the included dock for charging and TV display. Some users claimed doing this had caused scratches to appear on the Switch’s display.
“We have done, as you know, literally hundreds of events, starting with our activity back in January, and most recently the various tours that we continue to take the system out on. As soon as I heard of this report, I asked my teams, “Have we seen this in our own experience?” And the candid answer has been no,” Fils-Aimé said in his interview with Time.
Nintendo has encouraged anyone who is experiencing issues with the Switch to contact their customer support.
