Nvidia is bringing its cloud-based gaming platform to electric vehicles, meaning the likes of Fortnite, Destiny 2, and Rocket League will be baked into EVs from Hyundai, Polestar and BYD.
The new technology was announced at CES 2023, and will bring Nvidia’s GeForce Now, which boasts more than 1,000 games, to numerous EVs.
Front-seat drivers can play through the dashboard — but only when the car is in charge or park modes — while the back seat passengers can game as often as they wish.
“Accelerated computing, AI and connectivity are delivering new levels of automation, safety, convenience and enjoyment to the car,” said Ali Kani, Nvidia’s vice president of automotive said.
“The ability to stream popular titles from gamers’ libraries along with dozens of free-to-play games will bring the in-vehicle infotainment experience to new heights.”
Nvidia explains this is part of a move towards automated vehicles.
“The ability to stream games to the car is a key component of the future of in-vehicle experiences,” the company’s release said.
“As autonomous-driving technology becomes more prevalent, the interior will play a much larger role in differentiating brand identities.
“Consumers will focus more on features such as digital assistants, beautiful graphic displays and streaming content as they make vehicle buying decisions.”
No release date for the functionality was given at CES 2023.
