SanDisk has unveiled a 2GB microSD card for music mobile phones.
The card is the largest capacity of the world’s smallest removable Flash memory card, SanDisk said.
The company introduced the card in response to the growing demand for mobile music. Research by Strategy Analytics estimates that over 25 percent of all mobile handsets sold this year will play music. That figure is expected to top 50 percent by next year.
“Many consumers are embracing the convergence of digital music and mobile communications because it allows them to carry just a single device,” SanDisk’s Jeff Kost said in a statement.
The 2GB card is expected to arrive in Australia in the last three months of 2006. Pricing will be announced closer to the date.
