Samsung is continuing their push for VR with the announcement of a new lineup of live content set to hit the Gear VR platform in the coming months.
The first broadcast for Samsung’s new VR Live Pass will be UFC 212 this weekend live from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This marks the first time a UFC event has been live streamed in VR.
“We’ve always felt that the potential of combining UFC events with virtual reality would give our fans the ultimate enhanced experience,” said UFC Chief Operating Officer Ike Lawrence Epstein.
Live coverage of X Games Minneapolis will be available on VR Live Pass in July, with a live music concert featuring an unnamed artist described as “one of the most exciting, high-energy and renowned music acts” will follow in August.
“We are excited to offer Samsung Gear VR users the opportunity to experience their favorite live music and sporting events through our industry-leading VR ecosystem,” said Younghee Lee, CMO and Executive Vice President, Samsung Electronics.
“Partnering with these companies to expand our VR services helps us to open up a new gateway of opportunities for fans and demonstrate our commitment to delivering experiences that make the seemingly impossible, possible,” Lee added.
Owners a Gear VR device and compatible Samsung smartphone will be able to access VR Live Pass for free. More information can be found on the Samsung website.
