Samsung Australia has started another tactical war, this time they have used their A Series range of smartphones to strip share away from brands such as Oppo, Nokia and Google while also providing consumers with a reason to return to a high specced Samsung smartphone.
The tactic of using a low cost brand to grab share while protecting premium products is not new to Samsung who earlier this year launched a sub $2,000 range of TV’s that stripped share away from most brands with the exception of value brands such as Hitachi and Philips.
ChannelNews has been told that Samsung is selling up to 1,500 units a week of their A series range which is available at JB Hi Fi where the A70 with 128GB of memory is selling for $649 the A30 for $379 and the Samsung A20 for $279.
Garry McGregor the Vice President of IT and Mobile at Samsung Australia said that the A Series was driving consumers who had moved to another brand because of price back to Samsung.
“We are putting a lot of effort into looking after our customers with sales and after sales support. The devices we sell in Australia are optimised for Australia and the consumer likes what Samsung is delivering in terms of quality, performance and specifications. The new A70 is a classic example of what Samsung can deliver in a sub $650 smartphone”.
Several consumers who ChannelNews has spoken to who have purchased the new A70 have said “What more do you want in a smartphone, you have 128GB of memory and OLED screen and three cameras for under $650”.
According to observers it is this perception and trust in the Samsung brand that is driving sales and brand engagement for the Korean Company who is also witnessing record sales of their wearable devices.
The Samsung A70 has a large 6.7″ FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-U Display, Triple Camera with Smart Selfie, long lasting battery, and On-Screen Fingerprint Scanner which is technology not found in other value brands.
The 6.7” near bezel-less FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-U Display delivers a 20:9 aspect ratio. the triple cameras consists of a 32MP, 8MP and 5MP sensor range. It also has an Ultra-Wide lens and keep your day shots crisp and your night shots clear with the Low Light lens.

According to one retailer the launch of the new A Series Samsung smartphones came as consumers were switching off Huawei while also questioning whether the Chinese made Oppo smartphones faced the same security issues that Huawei has faced.
At JB HI Fi one of the most popular smartphone brands is Samsung however a perception was developing that “Samsung devices were expensive” said one source. “The new A Series is appealing to consumers who don’t want to pay over $750 but still want a Samsung branded device”.
A Telstra source said when the Oppo Reno 5G device was introduced the market had a choice between a Chinese made Oppo device or the Samsung S10 5G model from a Company that consumers trust” they said.
“In the current environment where serious questions are being raised about the security of devices from Companies such as Oppo and Huawei the consumers is moving back to smartphones from Companies they trust, and Apple and Samsung devices are the most trusted and the most popular”.
