Sony has announced the a6400 mirrorless camera with an integrated selfie screen for budding YouTube stars and content creators – slated to hit shelves in February 2019 for SRP $1,499.
The a6400 is a compact mirrorless camera built specifically for content creators and vloggers with its 180 degrees flippable LCD touchscreen.
Like previous models, the a6400 include the same autofocus system Sony also uses in its Alpha cameras, to provide what Sony claim is the “world’s fastest autofocus (AF) acquisition of 0.02 seconds.”
This latest model has also updated its subject focus, assisted by 425 autofocus points aiming to capture quick-reaction scenarios, ideal for sports or nature photography.
It also features Sony’s “Real-time Eye AF” capabilities which identify people and focuses on their eyes, which is now able to focus on animals’ eyes.
The a6400 can record Full HD video at 120 fps at up to 100Mbps, allowing footage to be edited into 4x or 5x slow-motion video files in Full HD resolution with AF tracking.
The camera also provides a continuous shooting speed of up to 11 fps with its mechanical shutter, or 8 fps in silent shooting mode, with continuous AF / AE tracking, adding up to 116 frames of JPEG Standard or 46 frames of RAW compressed images.
Its ISO range is 32,000 and is expandable up to ISO 102,400, for both stills and video. It’s not the most impressive on the market but it sports a wider range than its predecessors.
Also included is new-generation BIONZ X image processing engine that produces excellent image quality, 4K video recording, plus for colour grading, the a6400 supports S-Log2 and S-Log3 profiles.
“By bringing so many of our latest and most advanced technologies from full-frame cameras to a brand new APS-C model, we are giving today’s creators more options than ever to realise their vision,” said Neal Manowitz, vice president of Imaging Solutions at Sony Electronics.
Marketed as “the ultimate tool for all types of creators” no doubt it will make its mark on Aussie vloggers and influencers.
The α6400 will be available in Australia from February 2019 for SRP $1,499, and will be offered as a combo kit with the 16-50mm F3.5 – 5.6 lens for SRP $1,699.
