According to Telstra Enterprise and Government, Group Managing Director, David Thodey, “It clearly demonstrates the superior reliability and coverage of our networks as Telstra is seen by Defence as the only telecommunications carrier with the ability to meet its critical and demanding requirements”, he says.
Defence has one of the most geographically diverse fixed voice networks in Australia and one of the largest mobile phone fleets in operation, with increasing focus on high-speed remote access with wireless broadband.
Telstra, with its Next G network, is able to provide Defence with the coverage, reliability and data speeds necessary for its needs. Covering more than two million square kilometres, the network now provides voice and mobile broadband access to 99 per cent of Australians.
The contract win will allow Defence to gain significant efficiency benefits. In addition Defence is able to realise improved Service Delivery efficiencies by having Telstra provide all help desk activities associated with the tendered services.
