Vodafone, Boost and ALDImobile have all seen improvements in the latest consumer mobile phone market share report, while Telstra and Optus have fallen slightly overall.
Vodafone has seen the greatest increase in market share according to the report from Roy Morgan. 19.4% of the 50,000 consumers surveyed reported Vodafone as their post-paid or pre-paid service provider in May-October 2016, an increase of 0.9 percentage points from the same period in 2015.
Mobile Virtual Network Operators combined saw a decline of 0.3 percentage points to 17.1%, with Virgin, TPG/iiNet and Amaysim all contributing to this decrease.
Boost and ALDImobile managed to buck the trend of decreases in MVNO market share, with Boost up 0.3 percentage points to 1.4% and ALDImobile up 0.2 percentage points to 1.1% for all consumer mobile phones. Boost saw an increase of 0.6 percentage points to 3.8% in the pre-paid market, and ALDImobile increased by 0.7 percentage points to 3.2%.
“It is rewarding to see these research findings, which do broadly reflect the growth we have experienced over the last 12 months. We can put this down to a variety of factors that all combine to make Boost a compelling pre-paid option always focused on giving our consumers MORE,” said Boost CEO Paul O’Neile.
Telstra’s share in all consumer mobile phones was down 0.1 percentage points to 39.1%, but the company increased its pre-paid market share by 0.2 percentage points to 33.8%. Meanwhile, Optus is down 0.5 percentage points in all consumer mobile phones, remaining steady in post-paid market share at 24.2% but showing significant decline in post-paid market share of 1.8 percentage points to 24.6%.
