Microsoft Australia has been forced to cut retail prices of a number of Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system accessories by as much as 40 percent in an effort to stimulate sales up against the Sony PS2 and 3 and the highly popular Nintendo Wii.

Microsoft Australia has been forced to cut retail prices of a number of Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system accessories by as much as 40 percent in an effort to stimulate sales up against the Sony PS2 and 3 and the highly popular Nintendo Wii.

The 40pc reduction comes on the Xbox 360 universal media remote, slashed from A$49.95 to $29.95. A wireless racing wheel is down 25 percent from $199.95 to $149.95; and a 120GB hard drive is cut from $229.95 to $199.95.

A wireless networking adaptor and a headset have also been reduced. Microsoft stresses these are recommended retails ­ “the price consumers actually pay will be determined by the retailer”, says a media release.

Microsoft Australia cut the price of the basic Xbox 360 console by $50 back in July. It now sells in Australia for a recommended $349.95.
