It’s no secret that for all the things that are appealing about wireless earbuds, there’s still a lot of areas where the technology behind them is in need of dire improvement. No matter your brand of choice, battery life, audio quality and connectivity issues are all still very much a reality.
Zolo’s new Liberty+ wireless earbuds are aiming to make gains on all three of these fronts.
The company are currently raising funds on Kickstarter to roll out the first wave of the earbuds.
At the time of writing, the project has soared $350,000 past it’s initial goal of $40,000.
Available in two discrete shades (black and white), Zolo say the Liberty+’s LDS antenna and Bluetooth 5.0 technology synergize to offer unbreakable connectivity within a 10m range. They come compatible with all three major voice assistants (sorry, Cortana-fans) and, perhaps most importantly, a size-able 48-hours of battery life.
According to them, the secret ingredient here comes in the form of a lab-created material called Graphene – “a nanosheet with 100 times the hardness of steel yet only a fraction of the weight.”

“Through laboratory tests, we discovered applying a layer of graphene to a dynamic driver created an astonishing improvement in sound quality.”
They’re also talking up the GripFit technology built into the Liberty+, which they say achieves both maximum comfort and grip when worn.
Interestingly, Zolo aren’t just framing the Liberty+ as a set of earbuds that give Apple’s AirPods a run for their money but the start of something much bigger.
The company says that “Liberty+ is our debut, the first device to embody our vision. Over the past year we’ve poured our hearts, souls—and anything else we could find—into developing Liberty+. Now we can’t wait to share it with the world. And with Liberty+ leading the revolution, we’ll follow up with a new generation of smart speakers and headphones—intelligent hardware embodying our vision: Smart Audio with Sublime Sound.”
The final piece of the puzzle here is the price-tag. Those who get in early will be able to snap one up for $99 (plus shipping).
