LG has given a sneek peek to some of their new offerings which will be on show at CES in January in the USA. Among bthe new TV’s on show will be the largest 3D-capable TV yet.
Also on show will be a portable 3D TV which operates on the ATSC format. The technology will not be available in Australia untill after the3 Federal Government issues new spectrum to carriers and TV operators.
The new LG, 72 inch LZ9700 is much bigger than their previous 60-inch 3D TV. The new TV will have a 480Hz refresh rate, LED backlighting and LG’s usual Internet video and TV app store including access to 1400 Telstra Bigpond Movies.
The mobile TV is a prototype and will support mobile ATSC broadcasts with glasses-free 3D, even at speeds of up to 200km/h (124mph). The chip at the heart of the TV will also find its way elsewhere and will carry a data channel that can be used in smartphones or other devices with two-way control. A demo phone at CES will have a sample feed from local TV station KLAS that will give it coupons from Toyota.
More details will be available for the LZ9700’s launch at CES, but the mobile TV technology isn’t likely to be made into a shipping product untill spectrum is available in several markets around the world.
