According to the company, this new product range has been upgraded from the inside out, with more than 500 internal and external enhancements to the range, adding style and security without compromising its simplicity.

The also said that the four models in the S-Series range (the S30, S50, S80 and S90i) have been designed to accommodate both first time users looking for the basics and experienced GPS buyers looking for uncluttered depth of features.

Among these improvements are a stylish and lightweight new exterior, a re-designed interface, as well as a 4.3-inch widescreen display. Navman has also added shortcuts such as Money, Food, Tourist and SOS in addition to its Parking and Petrol shortcut buttons. New features such as a speaking keyboard, mileage expense reporter and a space-saving foldable cradle are also added to make things simpler, the company says.

A new interface is also included in the S-Series, with the most up-to-date 2007 map data coming in as a standard. The company also promises an anti-glare widescreen display, with directional alerts and spoken voice directions. Other intelligent features such as the auto dimming screen, and a quick drop down menu showing extra information, and a Speaking Keyboard that speaks each letter and number as you type.

The S-Series also comes with a NavPix technology that allows users to navigate to pictures. Moreover, Navman also promises users access to 23 million geo-tagged images via Flickr with simple downloading onto ones Navman device. Bluetooth function is also added to the S-Series, allowing a user to connect their mobile phone to the navigator. A dedicated SOS button is also present in this new navigation range, providing users with a list of emergency numbers ranging from hospitals to nearby police stations.

Navman has also integrated a TMC Traffic receiver on its S90i that will enable users to receive traffic updates through an FM radio frequency directly to ones Navman device. While this technology is currently available through a trial system in Melbourne, Navman expects this function to be available Australia-wide by mid 2008.

Navman Director of Sales and Marketing for Australasia, Marcus Fry said, ‘We’ve gone beyond navigation as a way of getting from A to B and invested in truly understanding how people want to use these products. This market is now main stream and as such, we have to recognise the varying degrees of consumer wants and needs – whether that’s a first time buyer or an experienced user. We aren’t simply adding extra features to our devices just because we can – we have evolved and reworked our product range in line with what we know consumers want.  That being, less clutter and richer content, delivered in a reliable, easy to use and intelligently designed package.”
